ANGELES CITY – Mayor Carmelo ‘Pogi’ Lazatin Jr. has suspended classes here in all levels for the celebration of the upcoming 2019 Southeast Asian Games, where he appealed to his constituents to support the Filipino athletes.
In accordance with Memorandum No. 1100, Series of 2019, work only in public schools was suspended also from December 2 to 6, 2019.
According to Mayor Lazatin, since some games will be held here, this is an opportunity to show support for the athletes who will represent the Philippines.
The Mayor said, sports like arnis, sambo, and wrestling will be hosted at Angeles University Foundation, while wakeboarding and water skiing will be at Deca Clark Wakepark in Barangay Margot here.
As what the Mayor said during the 2019 Southeast Asian Games Torch Run last November 23, this event will solidify our camaraderie, commitment, goodwill, and friendship with neighboring ASEAN countries, as well as to fellow Filipinos.
“In times like this,” he said, “we must show our unity, not just through sports, but as a nation who will rise and cheer for fellow countrymen.”
“In our preparations and meetings for SEA Games 2019, we assured the safety of my constituents, the participants, and the athletes will be the topmost priority, we coordinated to key agencies involved, especially to our PNP, ACPO Director Sangalang,” he added.
Furthermore, Ma. Irelyn Tamayo, Angeles City Schools Division Superintendent, said that instead of take-home activities for students, there will be make-up classes for public schools.
“The decision is to conduct make-up classes instead of take-home activities,” she said.
According to her, there will be a memorandum to be released regarding this on November 26.
Meanwhile, judo, jujitsu and kurash will be held at LausGroup Event Centre in City of San Fernando; shooting in Pradera Verde at Lubao town; rugby sevens and archery at the Clark Parade Grounds; dancesports at Royce Hotel and Casino; baseball and softball at The Villages Clark Freeport; Lawn Bowls, Petanque, and Obstacle Course at Clark Global City, among others.
