ANGELES CITY – Mayor Carmelo ‘Pogi’ Lazatin Jr., General Santos City Mayor Ronel Rivera, and South Cotabato First District Rep. Shirlyn Nograles, signed a sister agreement on Thursday, December 12 which will push for trade, tourism, and economic development between the cities.

The pact was signed at Museo Ning Angeles, where local government officials of both parties were the witnesses.

According to Mayor Lazatin, coverage of the said agreement include the promotion and sustainability of air connectivity between Clark and GenSan; exchange of best practices on social services, on economic enterprise development and management particularly for local college, and on trade and commerce through advertising, patronizing each city’s assets with the assistance of the private sector.

The Mayor also said that the promotion and development for Micro, Small, Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) is included, as well as the promotion for local tourism through the exchange of culture, heritage, and arts, and the exchange of best practices on information technology, local government administration, revenue generation, resources management, halal industry, environmental protection, and other innovative programs, and projects.

Furthermore, the agreement also involves the exchange of students, teachers, workers, correspondence, and sports; cross visits of government officials, employees, and public and private organization to learn about effective governance and efficient public service practices; and other special projects that may be identified later.

For the Mayor, this expansion of trade linkages between the Cities will lead to employment, investments, businesses, and connectivity, which truly empower and benefit the Cities, most especially our constituents in new development and sustainable growth.

He then reiterated the City’s efforts to inspect all the business establishments here, as well as his move to prohibit the increase of business tax.

"My administration will be a business-friendly City. In fact, we have been inspecting all the business establishments here to monitor that everyone is abiding with the rules and regulations. As one of my campaign promises, I will not increase the business taxes here, rather I will remain strict in implemening the policies of the City, and the law of the land," he said.

"And so," he added, "I can assure you that the Angeles City Government, under my stint, will work hand-in-hand with you towards a progressive, innovative, and business-friendly City."
