More workers and entertainers in various business establishments in Angeles City are rushing to the City Health Office to renew or apply for their health cards.
The City Health Office said 12,000 individuals have already received their health cards from January to July 2019. There are reportedly around 15,000 workers including entertainers at the red light district of Fields Avenue.
The CHO reported that from January to July this year, some 8,749 entertainers have been issued Pink Cards while 3,251 employees have been issued Gray Cards.
The surge in the number of Pink Card applicants was recorded after Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. issued Executive Order No. 5, requiring “all workers in massage parlors, spas, and other establishments offering similar services in Angeles City to secure a pink health card from the Angeles City Sanitation/EHS Division.”
“Due to the popularity of entertainment and other recreational establishments in the city, as well as the influx of both local and foreign tourists, Angeles City has become particularly vulnerable to the prevalence of sexually-transmitted disease,” the EO stated.
“The City Government has an obligation to promote and protect the health of its constituents, especially those working in vulnerable industries, and in the interest of protecting the health of workers in Angeles City, it is adamant that the city government implement measures to ensure that their health and safety is protected.”
The city government intensified its drive against bars that employ minors and have no business permits.
Mayor Lazatin warned the clubs against hiring minors or face closure.
