ANGELES CITY – Following Proclamation No. 115-A which declares March as the Fire Prevention Month, Mayor Carmelo ‘Pogi’ Lazatin Jr. reminds the public to be vigilant, cautious, and well informed as measures to avoid fire hazards in the city.

With the theme “Matuto ka, sunog iwasan na!” the Angeles City Bureau of Fire Protection led by Cinsp. Sonny Cario on March 1, 2020, conducts a motorcade along the major thoroughfares of the City observing the yearly Fire Prevention Month.

According to Lazatin, the motorcade promotes safety consciousness as a positive preventative approach against fire.

“It’s important that we spread an important message during Fire Prevention Month, and that is simply to be conscious of our surroundings and to be vigilant as much as possible because that is the best way to combat fire hazards, to avoid them in the first place,” said Lazatin.

He furthered the public must also learn how to keep one’s self and family safe and calm in case of the occurrence of fire.

For preventative measures, the Bureau of Fire Protection reminds the public to unplug electrical equipment when not in use, and check circuits for possible damage; always check for gas leaks; enforce a no smoking policy inside and outside the house and dispose cigarettes properly; practice proper housekeeping and keep flammable materials out of reach from children; and plan ahead in case of a fire occurrence such as an escape route and evacuation plan.

In the case of a fire, the Bureau further reminds the public to immediately call 911 for assistance; close the door of the burning area to avoid the spread of fire; grab a piece of wet cloth to breathe onto; look for windows leading outside; stop, drop, and roll in case one’s clothes catch fire; and keep calm as much as possible.

It can be recalled that Mayor Lazatin instructed the Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office to conduct earthquake and fire drills and simulations at schools and workplaces for emergency preparedness in the city.

For more information about Fire Prevention Tips, Mayor Lazatin urges the public to watch Lingkod Bayan on Thursday, March 5, 2020 where the Bureau of Fire Protection Chief Inspector Sonny Cario will be guesting.
