Mayor Lazatin warns Koreans vs unregulated tour escorts

Mayor Carmelo ‘Pogi’ Lazatin Jr. has warned residents and tourists from soliciting the service of unregulated tour escorts urging the Korean government to issue an advisory to Korean nationals visiting Angeles City.

The Angeles City Local Government received multiple reports on unregulated tour services provided to Korean nationals. The escorts allegedly provide ‘private services’ to clients.

In a letter to South Korean Ambassador Han Dong-Han dated August 19, 2019, Mayor Lazatin urged the Korean government "to aid us in our efforts by issuing an advisory to Korean nationals coming to Angeles City to refrain from soliciting the services of these unregulated tour escorts, in a bid to protect the health and safety of both our citizens."

"Due to the discreet nature of these arrangements, these tour escorts are not regulated by the Angeles City Government and, as such, they pose a risk of spreading diseases," said Lazatin.

More than 3,000 previously unregulated workers have already received their pink cards from the city government following a crack down on business establishments at the Fields Avenue recently.

The city government enforces measures to prevent the spread of HIV by requiring the city’s entertainment district to secure health clearances, including testing for HIV and other diseases, prior to being given permits to work.

Moreover, Mayor Lazatin also stressed the importance of the saturation drives being conducted by a joint task force composed of personnel from the Office of the Mayor, Business Permit and Licensing Division (BPLD), City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), City Health Office (CHO), Sanitation Division, City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), Gender and Development (GAD) Office, Angeles City Emergency and Disaster Command Center (ACEDCC), Angeles City Economic Development and Investment Promotion Office (ACEDIPO) and City Engineer’s Office (CEO) to check establishments’ and their workers’ compliance with the city regulations. #
