Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting delivers Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr.’s message of support for the Department of Health (DOH) on January 29, 2021, as Angeles City was chosen to host the Regional launching for Phase II of the Measles Rubella Oral Polio Vaccine Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR-OPV SIA).

Amid the pandemic, Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. wants to ensure the safety and health of all Angelenos, especially the children and prevent the outbreaks of Vaccine Preventable Diseases such as measles, rubella, and polio.

The activity featured the simultaneous kick-off of the MR-OPV SIA in Visayas Regions, NCR, III and IV-A. Phase 1 was already conducted last 26 October to 25 November 2020 in Mindanao Regions, CAR, I, II, IV-B and V.

Attending the event were DOH Undersecretary Gerardo V. Bayugo, Central Luzon Center for Health Developmen Director Dr. Cesar C. Cassion, World Health Organization Consultant Dr. Anthony Omoko, City Health Officer Dr. Verona Guevarra, and city and regional health workers.

During the event, five Angelenos children received measles and rubella vaccines and oral polio vaccine.

Mayor Lazatin is urging all Angeleno parents to bring their children to the nearest Health Center or Vaccination posts – 9 months to 59 months to be vaccinated against measles and rubella, and newborn children to 59 months to receive the oral polio.

DOH is conducting the said campaign for children under five years old—around 9.4M children for the measles-rubella vaccine and 6.9M children for the oral polio vaccine.
