ANGELES CITY – The city government has distributed food assistance to 400 indigenous families in Barangay Sapangbato.

This, as Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. fulfills his mission of “No Angeleño left behind,” during this pandemic.

“Marami sa mga kababayan natin ngayon ang nawalan ng trabaho at hirap sa buhay dahil sa COVID-19. Kaya sinisiguro din natin na napupunan natin yung pangangailangan ng mga Angelenos, lalo na yung mga nasa malalayong lugar,” Lazatin said.

Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel recently formed three teams consisting of Gender and Development Officer Mina Cabiles and staff; City Social and Welfare Development Chief Joy Duaso with staff and City Marshalls; and Angeles City Economic Development and Investment Promotions Office Head Irish Bonus-Llego with Civilian Security Unit, upon the orders of Mayor Lazatin.

The three teams went to Sitio Babo, Sitio Target, and Sitio Bliss in Barangay Sapangbato on August 18, to distribute food packages to 400 families, most of which comprised of indigenous people.

According to Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel, no amount of rain could stop them from delivering the said food packages to kababayans in Barangay Sapangbato.

“Kahit malakas yung ulan, at kahit madulas yung daan, tinuloy talaga namin yung pagpunta sa tatlong sitio na to,” she said.

“Importante kasi na maramdaman ng mga kababayan natin dito na hindi sila nalimutan ng city government, at may makukuha silang tulong lalo na ngayong may pandemya,” Manuel explained.

According to Manuel, the residents of Sitio Babo, Target, and Bliss all received their food packages with a smile on their faces, and sent their well wishes and thank you’s to Mayor Lazatin.

Aside from the food packages, the city government also distributed seedlings of pechay, okra, tomato, mustard, and ampalaya to the residents of the three sitios. This is part of the city government’s “Luntian sa Barangay Lingap Project,” which aims to promote urban gardening in Angeles City.

With this project, Mayor Lazatin encourages all Angelenos to use their vacant lots or backyards and practice gardening at the comfort of their homes during the time of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Malaki ang maitutulong ng urban gardening, lalo na ngayong may pandemya. Bukod sa nakaka-relax ang pagtatanim, mapapakinabangan mo pa ito kasi yung mga gulay na aanihin mo, pwedeng ipakain sa pamilya mo,” Lazatin said.

Joining the distribution is IC Calaguas, Vice President for Operations of Clark International Airport Corp. and Lazatin’s Chief Adviser and Tactician.
