ANGELES CITY – Mayor Carmelo ‘Pogi’ Lazatin Jr. designated the City College of Angeles (CCA) as the official quarantine center for Persons Under Monitoring (PUM) for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The quarantine center, according to Lazatin, will be manned by the City Health Office and will be equipped with beds, Wi-Fi connection, television, air conditioning, and personal hygiene kits.

He added that all PUMs would also be provided meals and medicines during the duration of their stay.

Furthermore, Lazatin said the quarantine center for PUMs is essential to monitor the patients with mild symptoms of the COVID-19 within the 14-day quarantine period of the Department of Health (DOH).

“Under the DOH guidelines, all PUMs must be under quarantine to safeguard public health and to contain the virus,” he said.

Moreover, under the same guidelines, the DOH requires local emergency teams such as the Barangay Health Emergency Response Team (BHERT) and the Quick Response Team (QRT) to directly transfer PUMs to the quarantine facility, as all PUMs are prohibited from leaving their rooms or houses unless certified by the local health official.

There are a total of 21 rooms in the CCA allotted for PUMs, 10 of which are for those who do not have symptoms. Each of these rooms will house 6 persons.

Meanwhile, 11 rooms are allotted for PUMs with mild symptoms. Each of these rooms will only house one person.

Lazatin furthered the designation of a quarantine center assures the local government a more conducive and coordinated monitoring process.

“By having an area specifically for PUMS, we would have a better and more accurate way of assessing our situation and the solutions we can provide. Also, contact tracing would be a lot easier as all PUMS would be contained in one area,” he added.

Meanwhile, Persons Under Investigation (PUIs) will directly be admitted to the Rafael Lazatin Memorial Medical Center (RLMMC), also known as Ospital Ning Angeles (ONA), the designated COVID-19 center of Angeles City.
